Mark has been practicing law in New York and various other jurisdictions for over three decades. He began his career at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York City, where he was fortunate to work with teams in securities litigation, antitrust, intellectual property, labor and employment,  product liability, trusts and estates and other areas. In 1997, he formed a new firm with another Skadden attorney, and in 2003 that firm merged with a corporate boutique to form what later became LaneCrowell LLP. As of late 2023, with his remaining partners retiring, Mark moved his practice to J. Mark Lane, P.C., where he continues the work he has done for over 30 years.

Mark's practice includes litigation and counseling in intellectual property (including trademark and copyright registration and licensing, as well as infringement actions), labor and employment, shareholder rights and derivative actions, corporate transactions, constitutional law and civil rights, real estate (including coop and condominium matters, property management and commercial leasing), fiduciary relationships and obligations, and essentially all aspects of general corporate law and practice. He represents businesses small and large, entrepreneurs, start-ups, corporate officers and directors, and individuals in many walks of life. He has worked as an in-house attorney at a significant technology company, regularly acts as "outside general counsel" to a wide range of businesses, and has served as counsel to his local church. In addition to practicing in federal and state courts across the US, he has extensive experience and training in alternative dispute resolution, has practiced before rabbinical courts, and has acted as a mediator, resolving disputes large and small. His corporate work includes general counseling, marketing and branding, formation and maintenance, corporate sales, mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs and many kinds of contractual arrangements in a variety of industries. In addition, he has helped clients manage "corporate divorces" in creative ways, maintaining value while permitting owners to move in new directions.

To list the kinds of clients and the areas of experience of Mark's practice would take many pages, and the point of this one-page website is to provide basic information, avoid clutter and "keep it simple."

Mark prides himself on being always available for his clients, who typically stay with him throughout their corporate and personal lives. He answers his own phone and promptly returns calls when he cannot do so.
